It’s official, this year’s Upper Perkiomen High School Production is Through the Looking Glass!

Currently, a dedicated group of students and their instructors are working to create Through the Looking Glass, this year’s high school production. For those who don’t know, the play is a sequel to Alice in Wonderland and, following its name, it centers around Alice’s adventure-filled journey through the looking glass. With a different plotline than its predecessor, it will be a truly new experience for its audiences.

Ms. Alicia Cortese, the play’s director, answered a few key questions regarding the plot. “Alice is drawn into the looking glass where she finds herself once again in Wonderland”, she explained. “She must cross the crumbling chessboard and fight the evil Red Queen who is seeking to destroy the world.”

The process of finding this obscure play was not as simple as previous years. Through the Looking Glass is a popular play in Europe, but is not usually seen by American audiences.

“This play was no where on my radar”, she admitted, “I found it after an exhaustive search.”

Through the Looking Glass has many scenes that will challenge the cast and crew, and wow the crowds. Not all of the scenes have been figured out from a technical stance. It’s hard to describe them without giving away the play’s iconic moments.

The crew still has a few months to iron out any technical kinks. During this time they will work to solve any timing issues, like getting the right props on the stage during the correct scene.

Finding ideal members for the production was also a multi-step process. Strong singers were a must for the play, as it includes challenging music. In addition acting and dancing skills were needed by all members. In order to find students that fit all this criteria, there were singing, acting, and dancing portions of the two-day audition. In the end, this made the auditions more selective than previous years. All this extra work will pay off in the form of a more successful final product.

Presently, the cast, crew, and instructors are still working to make Through the Looking Glass ready for its theater debut. The show will premiere March 12th of next year and continue through the weekend ending on the 15th.

Members of the community are encouraged to come out and support the Upper Perk Drama Club.
